Marking behaviours

How do dogs use marking in social interactions? What's the role of marking in confrontations and affiliation? 

 

Marking not just about urinating and kicking, it is it's own whole communication channel - a communication channel we mostly don't have access to as we cannot intentionally communicate through scent. But dogs do.
